He continues to rule thanks to Marshmello & Bastille’s “Happier.”
British producer/songwriter Steve Mac (full name: Steven McCutcheon) logs his 30th week at No. 1 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songwriters chart (dated Jan. 25), thanks to the smash single "Happier," recorded by Marshmello and Bastille.
"Happier" spent a record 69 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart; this week, the Black Eyed Peas and J Balvin's "RITMO (Bad Boys for Life)" dethrones it after a two-month wait at No. 2.
Steve Mac co-wrote "Happier" with Marshmello and Bastille's Dan Smith, who both tie at No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Songwriters with Mac. Marshmello logs his 12th total week on top, while Smith tallies his seventh week. Helping fuel his longer reign than those of Marshmello and Smith, Mac also co-wrote Marshmello's "Here With Me" (featuring CHVRCHES), which reached No. 2 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs last May, and Jax Jones and Bebe Rexha's "Harder" (No. 28, last July).
Notably, Mac, Marshmello and Smith are the only names to have placed atop Dance/Electronic Songwriters since the list's launch last June.
Mac boasts 12 career entries on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart as a songwriter, with five reaching the top 10, including "Happier," his lone No. 1 to-date.
On the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, Mac has earned 23 songwriting entries, Eight have hit the top 10, including Ed Sheeran's 12-week No. 1 "Shape of You" in 2017.
Mac has also achieved 21 Hot 100 entries as a producer, including three No. 1s: Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" (2002), Clay Aiken's "This Is the Night" (2003) and Sheeran's "Shape of You."
