For years, we have enjoyed “Como La Flor,” a song that definitely made a statement in Selena Quintanilla’s musical career. It became her first hit in the U.S., reaching No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart (dated Oct. 24, 1992).
The lyrics compare a love that ends to a flower that withers, because it does not receive the proper care.
Sadly, on March 31, 1995 Selena was fatally shot. To honor and remember Selena, Billboard has translated the beautiful lyrics of “Como La Flor,” Selena’s first hit in the U.S.
See the lyrics below.
(Verse 1)
I know you have a new love
However I wish you the best
If you didn’t find happiness with me
Maybe, someone else will give it to you
(Chorous)
Like the flower
That with so much love
You gave me
It withered
I’m leaving today
I know how to lose
But, ay ay ay how it hurts
Ay ay ay how it hurts
(Verse 2)
If you see how hurts to lose your love
With your goodbye, you are taking my hearth
I don’t know if I will love again
Because I gave you all the love I could give
(Chorus 2x)
Like the flower
That with so much love
You gave me
It withered
I’m leaving today
I know how to lose
But, ay ay ay how it hurts
Ay ay ay how it hurts
Billboard remembers Selena 25 years after her tragic death and celebrates her legacy with stories and a special podcast to be published on Billboard.com throughout the next few days.
