Roddy Ricch banks his first No. 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as “The Box” rises from No. 3 on the chart dated Jan. 11. The track likewise ascends to No. 1 on Hot Rap Songs and races 13-3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Box” leads thanks to its streaming supremacy. The single jumps 6-1 to rule the all-genre Streaming Songs chart for the first time through 42.6 million U.S. clicks in the week ending Jan. 2, according to Nielsen Music, up 15% from the week prior.
The streaming total helps “Box” win a second week at No. 1 on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs and Rap Streaming Songs lists.
In particular, the squeaky “ee ee” sound has become perhaps the song’s signature moment.
“Box” appears on the rapper’s latest studio album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial. The set debuted at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and logged its first three weeks at the summit, before slipping to No. 2 in its fourth frame.
While “Box” already has conquered the streaming world, the cut makes advances in other metrics. It lifts 15-8, a new peak, on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs Sales with 6,000 sold in the week ending Jan. 2, while it starts at No. 42 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. On the latter, “Box” registers 2.9 million in format audience in the week ending Jan. 5, a 142% gain from the previous week.
Attention surrounding “Box” bumps Roddy Ricch 14-8 to a new career best on the Artist 100 chart and 46-27 on the Social 50 chart.
