While the talented women behind the fictional Kpop Demon Hunters trio, Huntr/x, were originally slated to make their live television debut on The Tonight Show this coming Tuesday, they opted for an earlier surprise. On Saturday night, the group made an unexpected appearance at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, joining host Bad Bunny for a Saturday Night Live sketch that celebrated the runaway success of their Netflix animated feature.
In the sketch, Bad Bunny—who recently made headlines with the announcement of his upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show—portrayed an obsessive fan whose brunch conversation is entirely consumed by the plot and themes of the KDH film. The segment reached a high point when he vibed to “Golden,” the film’s signature track, as Audrey Nuna, EJAE, and Rei Ami appeared in a stylized thought bubble above him, drawing enthusiastic applause from the live audience.
The narrative took a comedic turn when show regular Bowen Yang appeared in character as the villainous Jinu, performing the “soul-sucking” track “Soda Pop” by the rival boy band, Saja Boys. This prompted Bad Bunny to summon his favorites, leading to a live performance by the real-life Huntr/x. The trio proved that their vocal prowess translates perfectly from the screen to the stage, delivering an evil-expelling performance that even had Yang’s character dancing along.
As noted by Hip-Hop Editor Aaron Williams, the group’s chemistry remains a focal point of their rising popularity. Fans who missed the live broadcast can catch the full sketch above. Huntr/x is still scheduled to make their formal television performance debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, October 7.
