San Francisco producer and DJ Justin Martin is an original member of the Dirtybird flock. His fun-loving, wonky bass style helped shape the beloved boutique label's sound. Martin will always be a staple of that family, but today, he leaves the nest to embark on a journey all his own and launch a new label called What To Do.
Rather than compete with his Dirtybird brethren, What To Do aims for a more serious, deep-seeded sound. Martin sets the tone with "Needs." The groove-heavy, synth-laden house jam brings a dark edge and funk for miles. It's been a favorite among fans in his DJ sets for two years running, but now, he's got the samples cleared and he's ready to unleash it on the world.
"There is no more holding back in 2020," Martin tells Billboard Dance. "My new label What To Do is all about exploring uncompromised creativity and perfecting my sound. Expect music with emotional depth combined with raw dancefloor grit. The debut release, "Needs," is a perfect example of what I am trying to achieve, and I am so happy I can finally share this vision with my fans!"
Martin has previously released two full-length albums on Dirtybird, Ghettos and Gardens and Hello Clouds, the latter of which peacked at No. 15 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart in 2016.
