Interview: Noelle Shares Video For “Never Forget You”

19-year-old emerging singer-songwriter noelle combines her unique lens of social unrest from being raised on the Tyendinaga Native Reserve in Ontario with today’s teen experience. Soon after graduating highschool, she signed with Wax Records and has spent the last two years developing her sound to create a modern blend of pop, R&B, and jazz influences.

Noelle’s new single, Never Forget Youis a vulnerable stripped-down piano ballad. “You could put a bullet inside my head/ I’ll still be thinking bout what you said/ I’ll never forget,” she sings with powerful crystalline vocals about a viscerally lasting but unforgettable heartbreak.

The single’s joined by a simple video that takes an intense turn. Without giving anything away, watch it right here and read our chat about the visuals and more.

What was the inspiration?

This is a very personal song to me. It’s about someone I cared about very much who put me through a lot of heartache.

Can you elaborate on some of the imagery used?

The end of the video represents the fact that no matter what happens, I won’t let it destroy me. I will continue on living life and recover and carry on.

Where was the video filmed?

It was filmed at a cute little church in Neustadt, Ontario.

What was your favourite part of the process?

I love all of it, but I especially love writing. Writing a song is so special to me. It helps me to share and express my feelings.

Any behind the scenes stories you can share?

The video had to be filmed in one take and we actually only had two chances to get a good take because I only had two white hoodies! Near the end of the first take, there was a funny moment when one of the crew was supposed to spray the fake blood on my hands and shirt under the piano. I could see him and it was squirting literally everywhere and it was so hard not to laugh.

What do you have planned for this year that you can let us in on?

I’m excited about the song we are releasing in April, and I’m excited for more writing trips and the people I will meet and work with along the way.
