Chris Brown and Drake each lands his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Songs airplay chart as “No Guidance,” billed as Brown featuring Drake, moves 2-1 on the list dated Jan. 18. The pair ascend with a 10% gain in plays in the week ending Jan. 12, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
Brown arrives at the summit with his 16th chart entry. His previous release, “Undecided,” also secured a milestone for the R&B superstar, as it marked his first top 10 success among his then-15 chart hits with a No. 4 showing.
Drake, meanwhile, visited the top 10 three times among 14 entries before “Guidance”: “Hold On, We’re Going Home” (No. 5), “Hotline Bling” (No. 6), and a featured turn on Mary J. Blige’s “Mr. Wrong” (No. 6).
While “Guidance” settles into a new role on the Adult R&B Songs front, the collaboration nears a record run on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. On that list, Brown and Drake post a 22nd straight week at No. 1, one week short of the all-time mark held by Miguel’s “Adorn,” from 2012-13.
Will Miguel share, and possibly even cede, the podium soon? Signs are strong. “Guidance” registers 31.2 million in audience in the latest tracking week, which closed Jan. 12, essentially even with its total from the prior week. Its closest competitor, Wale’s “On Chill,” featuring Jeremih, dipped 4% to 26.6 million in audience in the latest period.
“Guidance” appears on Brown’s most recent studio album, Indigo, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in July.
